Online dating taboo

Online dating has been looked at as a taboo in the past few years by older generations who have never used it as well as the younger generation who has an eternal fear of being kidnapped by someone with alternative motives besides dating or hooking up.

In some situations online dating can be risky and if you are not smart and do not do your research on the person before meeting them than you have greater chances of something ending badly.

University of Rochester has an interesting study that states that couples who meet on dating sites is about 1 in 4.

It is also said that online dating is the second most likely way to meet someone with meeting through friends still being most common.

“The data is adapted from a study by Michael Rosenfeld from Stanford University and Reuben Thomas from City College of New York and is based on a nationally representative sample of 3,009 partnered respondents.” (Found on

The stereotype is an old man sitting behind his computer but it really could be anyone which is why online safety is so pushed onto children now.

The problem with that is that it has been known to backfire because children have the urge to rebel and want to show that they are old enough to make their own choices in life.

For guys this may not be as much as a problem or taboo for them but for girls especially teenagers it is, if you tell anyone over the age of 35 that you met someone online they probably will freak out and start lecturing you on how dangerous that is if they have never used online dating.

This is known from my personal experience, if you feel like reading my tinder experiment I did a few months ago trust me I know.

The experiment got me kicked out of a group called Youth Commission that was teen government for the county which I was very involved in for the education board, but everyone had their own opinion towards this ironically touchy topic.

I kept getting told about how much I better not meet these people which ultimately is my choice if I want to be stupid,if I will make smart decisions online or if I think they could be 10 years older than I am.

It was a major headache which caused me to second guess myself while working on it but I set my mind to it and wanted to finish it no matter what anyone said.
